Who is Involved?

A Message from your Council

We are delighted to have this opportunity to support householders to access discounted renewable technology. We are committed to doing all that we can to reduce carbon emissions across the District. If we all play our part individually, we really can make a difference to our climate. It’s so encouraging to know that with each solar panel installed, you will be contributing to community renewables – making the whole district greener.

Candice Luper
Sustainability Projects Officer
St Albans City and District Council

What’s the Deal?

Extra Bonus for the Community Fund

In conjunction with Sustainable St Albans, an extra £25 is donated to the Community Fund per home, if a minimum of 6 homes in the same street have Solar PV Panels installed before the end of Dec 2020.  So if you’re thinking of having panels installed, get together with your neighbours and add an extra £150 minimum to the Community Fund.

What is available in the scheme?

Solar PV Panels

    • Standard offering now features black 340Wp panels from Tier 1 suppliers

    • A standard 4kWp, 12 panel system saves 1.5T of carbon dioxide per year

Battery storage systems

    • Both “dumb” – simple storage of your panel’s output and discharge to your home, and

    • “Advanced” – Artificial Intelligence based systems that optimise exports and imports by looking at wholesale prices in the electricity market

  • use this neat little add-on device to heat your water with your solar energy

Electric Vehicle Charging Points

Solar Canopies

  • for businesses who don’t have enough roof space or just want extra solar electricity, you can add solar canopies to your car park space – you can still use it as a car park but the panels sit on a canopy above the cars on a secure steel structure – ask us at

Commercial Businesses/Schools

  • if you use a lot of electricity in your business and have a large roof on your workspace then ask us about a commercial install and see how you can save on your electricity bill – ask us at

  • if your business doesn’t have the funds to hand for the install but still want to use Green Electricity then ask us about  a Power Purchase Agreement where you do not have any upfront cost but you can still save money on the per unit rate you pay for your electricity – please note, a PPA usually runs for 10 to 25 years so it is not a short-term option, but can be a great option if you own your building or have a very long lease – ask us at

    • This is a particularly good option for SCHOOLS and COLLEGES that have the roof space and the electricity demand but don’t have the immediate funds, because you will usually either own the building or be staying in the same building for a long time and can save money on your electricity bill secure in the knowledge that you are also reducing your carbon footprint

How Do I Get the Deal?

Solar Panels

If you want Solar Panels installed then you can simply contact IDDEA directly through – they will first conduct a desktop survey of your property making sure it is suitable for solar panels and they will then arrange a free, no obligation physical survey on your property (all social distancing guidelines will be followed).  If you want any added extras they will explain them all to you clearly and with transparant prices – there will be no hard sell.

Energy Deal with Octopus Energy

If you wish to find out about the energy deal with Octopus Energy then click the Octopus Picture below – this does not commit you to anything, it will only give you a quote.  You then need to decide for yourself whether you want to switch supplier or not.  If you do switch to Octopus you will receive £50 from Octopus and the St Albans Community Fund will also receive £50.

Octopus Energy Deal

Please note:  neither IDDEA, The Green Group, or any body associated with Solar Streets receives any money or commission from Octopus Energy for this deal – you get £50 and the Community Fund gets £50 – that’s it!
